Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis officially addressed the resignation controversy of NCP leader Dhananjay Munde at a business summit on Wednesday. Putting an end to speculation, Fadnavis stated that there was no pressure on the CID regarding the Beed sarpanch murder case.
Responding to allegations that Munde had interfered in the investigation, Fadnavis said, “If the CID had found even a single piece of evidence proving interference, action would have been taken. However, no such evidence exists. Prosecution is not based on emotions but on hard evidence. No accused will be spared, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar convened a meeting of NCP MLAs and ministers at his official residence. The meeting included all key leaders, including Munde himself.
During the discussion, Pawar cited Walmik Karad’s alleged involvement in the Beed murder as the reason for Munde’s resignation. He advised party members to be cautious about their political associations.
“Dhananjay Munde had to resign due to his links with Walmik Karad. In the future, leaders should not be overly dependent on their workers for political activities. If anything goes wrong, it not only affects the leader but also tarnishes the party’s image,” Pawar warned.
Munde, who was the state’s food and civil supplies minister, did not attend the assembly session on Wednesday following his resignation. His exit from the cabinet has sparked political debate, with the opposition raising questions about the government's handling of the situation.
