NCP-SCP leader and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh's car was allegedly attacked on Monday (November 18) near Nagpur. The minister was returning from Nagpur and some people pelted stones at his car on Katol Jalalkheda Road in Katol assembly. Anil Deshmukh's son Salil is contesting the election from the Katol seat on NCP Sharad Pawar's ticket.
The minister's car was attacked with stones, according to reports. A purported video surfaced on social media platform X showing Anil Deshmukh bleeding from the head.
He suffered injuries in the incident and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to reports.
In a separate incident of similar kind, stones were hurled on the car of independent candidate Suresh Sonawane in Gangapur assembly constituency in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Monday evening.
He sustained a minor injury on the head in the incident that took place at 7:30pm, a senior police official said.
"Stones were hurled by an unidentified person on the car of Sonawane near Lanji village under Waluj police station limits. He received medical aid immediately," Deputy Commissioner of Police Nitin Bagate told reporters. Three teams have been formed to nab the accused, he added.
Maharashtra polls will be held on November 20, while results will be declared on November 23.
