Thane: Hundreds of villagers from Thane and neighbouring Palghar districts staged road blockades at several key locations to protest the poor condition of local roads on Thursday. The protest aimed to draw attention to the dangerous state of major roads, especially during the monsoon season, which villagers described as "death traps."
The protests were organised by a local voluntary group that took place simultaneously at 11 different locations. Protesters raised slogans against the government and demanded immediate action to repair the damaged roads, particularly the Bhiwandi-Wada and Bhiwandi-Vasai routes, as reported by news agency PTI.
"These roads have been relaid and repaired multiple times, but they go from bad to worse each time, especially during the monsoon. They have become death traps. Despite several meetings and appeals to the authorities, nothing has improved," said Rambhau Varna, president of Shramajivi Sanghatana, according to report.
In another news story from Thane's Bhiwandi area, a container truck driver lost his life after the vehicle overturned due to loss of control on June 22. The deceased has been identified as Ram Lakhanadar Chavan, a resident of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh.
