Thane: 2 scrap dealers arrested for holding cops captive in godown

The Mahatma Phule police station arrested two scrap dealers from Bazarpeth area in Kalyan on Sunday, May 8 for shutting down the police on duty inside the shops when they went to investigate the possession of stolen railway tracks at their scrap godown.

The police officials from Mahatma Phule police station soon after receiving the information about the two cops who had been kept hostage by scrap dealers sent a team to rescue the cops. The police arrested the two accused scrap dealers who took the shop for running and now they are searching for the owner of the shop.

The senior police inspector of Mahatma police station Ashok Honmane said that, "The two cops Jayesh Gosavi and Pradeep Giri who are posted with the Mahatma Phule police station were on patrol duty and got information that some people had kept stolen railway tracks at a scrap godown situated in Bazarpeth area in Kalyan. They went to Godown and found the stolen railway tracks. When the cops questioned the accused named Shaukat Shaikh and Ishaque Bhagwan about the stolen railway tracks they started manhandling the cops and locked them inside the godown and fled from the spot."

Honmane further added, "Our police team arrested the two scrap dealers and also rescued both the cops."

" We have also shared the details with the Kalyan Railway Protection Force who will separately register an offense to investigate where the accused stole the railway tracks from" informed Honmane.

When FPJ Correspondent asked Ashok Honmane that from when they have been involved in stealing the railway tracks and till when they have got the police custody to which he replied, " The investigation is still underway and will come to know about the custody once they will be back from the court."
