Several industries operating in the Taloja MIDC area have raised concerns over what they term as "exorbitant" property tax charges levied by the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC). Many of these industries, which are yet to clear their property tax dues, have expressed willingness to pay the principal amount—provided the interest and penalty components are waived off.
The Taloja Industries Association (TIA), acting on behalf of these industries, has taken up the matter with PMC officials.
TIA representatives have met with PMC Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, Additional Municipal Commissioner Ganesh Shete, and Deputy Municipal Commissioner Swaroop Kharge, urging them to consider introducing an amnesty scheme.
According to TIA, such a scheme—offering waiver of interest and penalties—would incentivize defaulters to settle their dues, ultimately boosting PMC's revenue collection.
TIA has assured its member industries that it will continue to pursue the matter and coordinate closely with PMC to seek a resolution.
