Navi Mumbai News: Taloja Chemical Factory Workers Protest Over Unpaid Wages, Demand Permanent Jobs
Over 104 workers, who were previously engaged on a contract basis, have accused the company of unfairly dismissing them after resuming operations following a fire incident.

Contract workers working for a chemical factory in Taloja MIDC have launched a protest outside the company's premises, demanding pending wages and permanent employment. Over 104 workers, who were previously engaged on a contract basis, have accused the company of unfairly dismissing them after resuming operations following a fire incident.
The protestors claim that while some workers were absorbed into permanent positions, many were abruptly removed without notice despite the company requiring manpower. The management allegedly hired migrant laborers instead, overlooking local workers from villages such as Padghe, Kolwadi, and Wavanje.
The affected workers sought help from Jagruti Foundation President Nilesh Sonawane, who has urged the administration to intervene. " Local workers should not face injustice or unemployment and the fight will continue until they are given their rightful jobs," said Sonawane.

In December 2024, during a hearing with the Deputy Labor Commissioner in Panvel, the company had assured that the workers would be reinstated in phases. However, the workers allege that this commitment was not fulfilled. Frustrated by the lack of action, they have now resorted to an indefinite hunger strike. " the company, with administrative backing, is attempting to suppress their movement by pressuring the local police," said a worker.
Meanwhile Jagruti Foundation has vowed to continue supporting the workers through legal means until they receive their due wages and jobs.
