Navi Mumbai News: Portion Of Dilapidated Building Collapses On Parsik Hill In Belapur Amid Heavy Rains; No Casualties Reported

Navi Mumbai: A portion of a dilapidated building located on Parsik Hill in Belapur collapsed early Friday morning during heavy rainfall. According to officials, there was no loss of life as the building had remained unoccupied for several years. However, two cars parked beneath the structure were severely damaged after debris fell on them.

According to officials, several buildings on Parsik Hill have been lying vacant and deteriorating for years. Due to the continuous heavy rains over the past week, a part of one such building gave way at around 2.30 am. The Belapur Fire Brigade team, upon receiving the alert, rushed to the site and removed the debris. The two damaged vehicles were also cleared from the area.

Assistant Station Officer of the Belapur Fire Brigade, Ramchandra Chaudhary, said, "The building was already vacant and, therefore, no injuries or fatalities occurred. The falling debris caused major damage to two parked cars. The collapsed structure was lised among the dangerous buildings recently identified by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC)."

The NMMC had recently completed a city-wide structural survey for the year 2025–26 and declared 501 buildings as dangerous under Section 264 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act.

Among these, 51 buildings fall under the C-1 category, which are extremely dangerous and unfit for habitation. These structures need to be vacated immediately and demolished.

. Another 104 buildings are categorized under C-2, which require complete evacuation for structural repairs.

. A total of 297 buildings fall under the C-2B category, which need structural repairs but do not require evacuation.

. The remaining 49 buildings have been placed in the C-3 category and need only minor repairs.

The NMMC has also clarified that in the event of any incident involving a collapse, the responsibility for damage or casualties will lie solely with the concerned owner or occupants, and the municipal corporation will not be held accountable.
