Navi Mumbai News: 3 Proposals Submitted To NMMC To Aid Widows, Ailing Women And SHGs

Navi Mumbai: Three key proposals aimed at improving the lives of underprivileged women in Navi Mumbai have been submitted to Municipal Commissioner Kailas Shinde. The demands call for financial support to widows, economically weaker women suffering from chronic illnesses, and registered women’s self-help groups (SHGs).

The proposals were submitted by Shiv Sena’s Women District Organizer for Belapur Assembly, Saroj Rohidas Patil.

The first proposal recommends a direct assistance of Rs 1 lakh for widows who have lived in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) area for at least five years and have lost their spouses unexpectedly. It also sought for a relaxation in age criteria to ensure wider inclusion. The suggested aid is intended to offer immediate economic relief to grieving families, especially those lacking alternate sources of income, said Patil.

A second proposal highlights the financial struggles of women battling chronic or terminal illnesses. It urges the corporation to increase the existing aid to Rs 1 lakh, citing the burden of medical expenses and the rising cost of living. Patil informed that the enhancement, the proposal argues, would provide dignity and stability to affected women and help cover both healthcare and subsistence needs.

The third proposal calls for the revival of the women’s self-help group grant scheme, which has remained dormant in recent years. It suggests a minimum grant of Rs1 lakh for each registered SHG, to be used for expanding small-scale businesses, developing new products, and creating local employment. The financial push, it adds, would empower women-led groups to achieve economic sustainability and contribute to the local economy.

These proposals, designed to promote economic resilience and gender-focused development, are currently under review, said an official.
