80 children aged between 4 and 7 years, belonging to the underprivileged section, are being provided with the opportunity to learn English and acquire basic mathematical skills. This initiative has been undertaken by the humanitarian wing of Nerul Gymkhana Trust, which has committed itself to imparting free basic education to these children.

The project titled as Nanhe Kadam, has been recently launched with the objective of preparing underprivileged children for mainstream education as they grow. A Montessori-style kindergarten has been set up by the trust, where teachers and volunteers deliver daily lessons in soft skills and fundamental education. “Nanhe Kadam has been designed to provide holistic, quality education and wellness support to underprivileged children aged 3 to 18 years in and around Seawoods, Nerul, and Navi Mumbai.

Educational programs focusing on language development, mathematical reasoning, mental wellness, physical fitness, and nutritional education are being offered through a combination of online and physical classroom environments,” stated trustee of the Gymkhana KP Sherif.

The initiative has been recognized as an effort to bridge the disparity in access to quality education for underprivileged children in Navi Mumbai.

Funded as a CSR activity, an allocation of ₹8 to 10 lakh has been provided by donors to support the project. Classes are being conducted from Monday to Saturday, with a strong focus on early elementary education. The project is being directed by Rajneesh Kaur, while its coordination is overseen by Vinay Rao.

"In the short term, an improvement in students' test scores, a reduction in stress levels related to academics, and the development of better eating habits are anticipated. In the long run, the initiative is expected to enhance graduation rates and contribute to better employment opportunities. The project is based on the popoular quote – Give me a child until he is 7 and I will give you the man," explained the coordinator of the project Vinay Rao.

Additionally, the project aims to foster early developmental skills and strengthen the parent-child bond through interactive learning and communication-based activities.

"Workshops on managing personal stress and creating a nurturing home environment for both children and parents are being conducted. These supplementary programs are intended to enhance the parent-child relationship through educational and engaging activities while also empowering parents to take an active role in their child’s early education and overall development," informed a staff
