With increasing demand from daily metro users, calls are growing louder for the Navi Mumbai Metro to begin operations earlier in the morning and extend service late into the night. Navi Mumbai: With increasing demand from daily metro users, calls are growing louder for the Navi Mumbai Metro to begin operations earlier in the morning and extend service late into the night.

Commuters have requested that the first train from Pendhar station start at 5:00 a.m. and the last train from Belapur run until 12:00 midnight to better serve office-goers, students, and late-night travelers.

"Currently, the last metro from both Pendhar and Belapur operates at 10:00 p.m., leading to inconvenience for those returning from Mumbai and nearby suburbs. The lack of early-morning public transport has also forced many to rely on expensive private options, especially those traveling to early shifts or academic institutions in Mumbai," said the local corporator Netra Kiran Patil.

In response to these concerns, a delegation led by the corporator recently met with CIDCO. A written memorandum was submitted requesting to revise timings to suit the needs of the working population.

"Metro authorities have assured that a survey of passenger volume during the early morning and late-night hours will be conducted within a week. Based on the findings, a decision on extending metro timings will be considered," said Patil.

Previously, following public appeals in 2023, metro operations is reported to have been extended to 11:00 p.m., which had benefited a wide segment of daily travelers. However, with a recent rollback to 10:00 p.m. commuter frustration has resurfaced. Present during the submission of the proposal were student commuters.
