In a major crackdown on autorickshaw and taxi drivers violating traffic rules and harassing commuters, the Mumbai Traffic Police has taken action across major city hotspots including railway stations, bus depots, markets, and other public areas. The drive, conducted between April 18 and May 2, 2025, resulted in a total of 48,417 e-challans being issued.

Mumbai: In a major crackdown on autorickshaw and taxi drivers violating traffic rules and harassing commuters, the Mumbai Traffic Police has taken action across major city hotspots including railway stations, bus depots, markets, and other public areas. The drive, conducted between April 18 and May 2, 2025, resulted in a total of 48,417 e-challans being issued.
According to traffic police data, the violations included 28,814 cases of fare refusal, 6,268 for carrying excess passengers, 1,164 for not wearing the prescribed uniform, and 12,171 for other offenses such as not carrying valid documents, lack of badges, and driving without permits. The drive also led to the collection of Rs 40,25,356 in pending fines.
Most notably, the department has initiated license suspension proceedings against the 28,814 drivers who refused fares. Officials said the operation aims not only to enforce the law but also to ensure better service for commuters.
