Mumbai: Mumbai was on high alert over the weekend after bomb threats were issued to the U.S. Consulate and two international schools—Kanakia International School in Govandi and Ryan International School in Kandivali East. International schools received emails Saturday threatening bomb blasts on Monday, when the schools were set to open for the academic year 2025-26.
The email threat allegedly mentioned a rape case in Hyderabad and claimed that “only if children die parents will protest and police will do proper investigation” and “provide justice for rape victim from Hyderabad”.
The threats to both schools were sent via email from the same ID—Divij Prabhakar Laxmi—raising suspicions that a single individual may be behind all the threatening emails. The emails were sent to the official school email addresses, warning of an impending bomb attack.
While thorough searches by local police and bomb squads revealed no explosives or nothing suspicious was found on the premises of these schools, the incidents triggered panic and prompted swift action by authorities. Mumbai Police have registered two FIRs and launched an investigation.
According to Mumbai police sources, at Kanakia International School, two separate emails were received: the first at 10:16 PM on June 14, and the second at 5:02 PM on June 15. Nupur Agarwal, the school’s Admission Officer, was the recipient.
The email said, “Bomb blast in your school at Monday 1:00 p.m. to provide justice to rape victim in Hyderabad. We are going to bomb blast to provide justice to rape victim and dowry victim. Police is sleeping they cannot do anything they don’t know to investigate properly.”
Following this, a complaint was filed by Manohar Jaywant Naik, 56, the school’s security officer, and an FIR was registered at the Deonar police station on Sunday under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for threats that created fear in public. Notably, the police also invoked Section 66F of the Information Technology (IT) Act, which deals with cyber terrorism.
Ryan International School in Thakur Complex, Kandivali (East), also received a similar email threat on June 14, 10.16 PM and 5.02 PM on June 15, claiming that a bomb blast was planned at the school. The message was also sent from the same email address. But, on examining the school premises, the threat was found to be a hoax.
Based on a complaint filed by Santosh Dattatray Sawant,58, the Samta Nagar Police have registered a case in this regard against an unidentified person.
The Police cyber units are currently tracking the origin of the emails by tracing the IP address of the system used to send the email. Initial assessments suggest the possibility of a hoax, but investigations remain active.
The Crime Branch of the Mumbai police is also conducting a parallel investigation in this matter and is attempting to identify the culprit.

A full sweep was conducted by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the dog squad, but nothing suspicious was found.
A case has been registered at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) Police Station against an unknown individual under relevant sections of the Bhartiy Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Act.
