Mumbai News: 24 Held In Late-Night Raid On Illegal Hookah Parlour in Chembur

Mumbai: The Crime Branch’s Unit 6 carried out a raid on an illegal hookah parlour operating in the Chheda Nagar area of Chembur late Monday night. During the operation, over 24 youths were taken into custody for questioning.
The action was led by Senior Inspector Bharat Ghone and his team, who had received specific intelligence about the parlour running without proper permissions. Upon raiding the premises, officers found several hookah setups being used in violation of the law.
Sources from the Crime Branch confirmed that the establishment was operating without the required licenses and had become a hotspot for youth gatherings. Further legal action is underway, and police are probing the involvement of the parlour’s owner and staff.
Acting on a tip-off, Crime Branch Unit 6 raided an illegally operating hookah parlour — One Life Café — located at Jai Ambe Nagar, Chedda Nagar Junction, Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road in Tilak Nagar, Chembur. The raid was conducted around 3:46 AM on June 15, leading to the detention of 24 individuals.
A case has been registered at Tilak Nagar Police Station under Sections 287, 125, 223, and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 4 and 21 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003 (as amended).

The hookah parlour operator, manager/cashier, two waiters, and 20 customers were detained. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Bharat Ghone. The raid team, led by Police Inspector Sushant Sawant, included officers Sandeep Rahane, Masheray, Belnekar, Desai, Chavan, Jedgule, Wankhede, Bhalerao, Sasane, and Bodhare.
The hookah parlour was allegedly offering flavoured tobacco products to customers in violation of COTPA regulations. Following the raid, a formal case was filed at Tilak Nagar Police Station. The seized items were documented, and all 24 individuals were taken into custody for further investigation. The case is being handled by Crime Branch Unit 6.
