Mumbai Crime News: Police File FIR Against 23-Year-Old Powai Resident For Flying Drone Without Permission

Mumbai: Police have filed an FIR against a 23-year-old man from Powai for allegedly flying a drone. The accused, Ankit Thakur, is a cinematographer and graphic designer. As per orders issued by the Commissioner of Police, drones are banned in the city.

About The Incident

The incident came to light when the police control room received information past midnight about a drone crash in Solaris Complex on Saki Vihar Road. On gathering information from the caller, the police detained Thakur, who said he was using the drone for professional work.

During interrogation, Thakur said he purchased the drone a year ago, but it had not been functional due to a technical fault. He recently had it repaired and was testing it when it crashed. He also admitted not having obtained permission to fly it. The police are now probing whether the drone was being used to monitor any sensitive locations.

They have also initiated the process of having the seized drone examined forensically. Meanwhile, Thakur has been booked under Section 223(disobedience to an order) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
