Mumbai Crime: 32-Year-Old Woman Shot In Hand While Grocery Shopping In Dharavi, Case Filed Against Unknown Assailant
A 32-year-old woman sustained a serious gunshot wound to her hand during a late-night incident in Dharavi on Sunday. The victim, identified as Sarvar Begum Shaikh, a native of Motihari district in Bihar. The bullet, lodged in her palm, has since been surgically removed. The Shahunagar Police have registered a case against an unknown individual and are investigating the matter.

Mumbai: A 32-year-old woman sustained a serious gunshot wound to her hand during a late-night incident in Dharavi on Sunday. The victim, identified as Sarvar Begum Shaikh, a native of Motihari district in Bihar. The bullet, lodged in her palm, has since been surgically removed. The Shahunagar Police have registered a case against an unknown individual and are investigating the matter.
Incident Occurred During Night Grocery Run in Dharavi
According to the police, the victim moved to Mumbai three years ago and resides in Dharavi with her husband and children. Her husband, a fruit vendor, has resided in the city for seven years. On Sunday night, around 9:30 PM, Sarvari was out buying groceries on 90-foot Road when she suddenly felt a shot to her hand.
Initially, Sarvar did not comprehend what had happened. As blood started gushing from her hand, she was rushed to a hospital for treatment. Examinations at the Sion hospital revealed that a bullet had penetrated her hand.
Victim Stable After Surgery at Sion Hospital
Upon receiving news of the incident, the Shahunagar Police immediately arrived at the scene and commenced their investigation. Doctors successfully performed surgery to extract the bullet, and police confirm Sarvar's condition is stable.
No Known Disputes, Victim’s Family Doesn’t Suspect Anyone
Police have recorded statements from both Sarvar and her husband. Sarvari reportedly has no known disputes with anyone in the area. Information has also been gathered from her family, who likewise do not suspect anyone, but an officer stated they are investigating all angles.

Following the shooting, police have begun examining CCTV footage from the area. The identity of the shooter is yet to be ascertained, and police are gathering more information based on the sequence of events.
The Shahunagar Police have registered a case against an unknown person under Section 109 (Attempt to Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act.
