Mumbai: In a shocking incident, two unidentified bike-borne individuals forcibly snatched an e-challan machine from a traffic police constable while he was enforcing traffic rules. The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 25, at the Hariom Junction signal on the Eastern Express Highway.
The Navghar Police have registered a case and detained two youths from Mumbra in Thane. The challan machine was traced today, and both individuals — residents of Mumbra — were brought to police station for further investigation, an official said.
According to the FIR, Police Constable Laxman Rathod, attached to the Kanjurmarg Traffic Division, was on duty at the Hariom Junction signal in Mulund East, around 12:42 PM when a two-wheeler jumped the red signal. Rathod clicked a photo of the vehicle using the department-issued e-challan device.
The motorcyclists then approached him, and the pillion rider suddenly snatched the e-challan machine from Rathod’s hand. When Rathod attempted to stop them, both accused pushed him aside forcefully and fled the scene.
