Mumbai Bomb Threat: BMC HQ & Metro Stations Receive Threatening Email; Police Launch Massive Search Operation

Mumbai: Security was tightened across key civic installations in Mumbai on Friday after a threatening email warning of bomb blasts at the Mumbai Mayor's office, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters and Metro stations was received. The Mumbai Police, along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), immediately launched extensive search operations at the mentioned locations.

According to Mumbai Police, the email specifically threatened to target the Mayor's office, the BMC headquarters and Metro stations, prompting authorities to treat the threat seriously. Police personnel, bomb disposal teams and dog squads were deployed to thoroughly inspect the premises and ensure public safety.

Videos circulating on social media showed a heavy police presence outside the BMC headquarters, with officials carrying out detailed searches inside the civic body's administrative building. Security arrangements were also strengthened in and around the affected locations as a precautionary measure.

Authorities are currently verifying the authenticity of the threatening email while investigations are underway to trace its origin and identify the sender. No suspicious object has been reported so far.

Police have urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading rumours, while maintaining heightened security until the search operations are completed. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.

Similar Threats Received Earlier This Year

Multiple municipal offices, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters and the Mumbai Mayor's office, were placed on high alert on June 10 after receiving a series of coordinated bomb threats.

Mumbai Police said the threats also targeted the National Stock Exchange (NSE) building. In response, police teams, accompanied by the dog squad, conducted a thorough search of the BMC premises and secured the offices following the bomb threat received at the Mayor's office.
