MSEDCL Cuts Power Supply Of 10,177 Consumers In Kalyan, Bhandup Zones Over ₹129 Crore Dues; Urges Immediate Payment To Avoid Permanent Disconnection

Navi Mumbai: Electricity supply of 10,177 consumers from Kalyan and Bhandup zones with pending dues amounting to Rs 129 crore has been temporarily disconnected in March.

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has intensified its crackdown on defaulters, urging them to clear their outstanding dues immediately to avoid further action. With only a few hours remaining until the end of the financial year, MSEDCL has appealed to consumers to make their payments promptly.

MSEDCL, which relies on monthly bill collections for financial stability, has accelerated its recovery drive. In Kalyan zone alone, 5,564 consumers have faced disconnection this month, including 1,252 in Kalyan Division 1, 1,700 in Kalyan Division 2, 2,402 in Vasai Division, and 210 in Palghar Division. Despite these measures, Rs 53.04 crore in dues remains outstanding from low-tension (LT) consumers in the zone, said a statement released by MSEDCL.

Meanwhile, in the Bhandup zone, power supply to 4,613 defaulters has been cut off in March. This includes 1,298 consumers in Thane City Division, 1,779 in Vashi Division, and 1,536 in Pen Division. The zone is still looking to recover Rs 75.96 crore from LT consumers before the March 31 deadline.

To help permanently disconnected consumers clear their dues, MSEDCL is offering relief through the Abhay Yojana. Under this scheme, consumers can settle their outstanding bills by paying the principal amount in a single payment or through six instalments.

However, with the March 31 deadline fast approaching, only five days remain for defaulters to take advantage of this scheme. So far, 16,500 consumers from both zones have availed the scheme, clearing Rs 35.50 crore in dues. MSEDCL has urged remaining defaulters to act quickly and settle their payments before the deadline to avoid permanent disconnection.
