Thane: Tensions gripped the Mumbra locality of Thane on Thursday morning after a shooting incident left one man dead and two others severely injured. The Mumbra police have successfully apprehended the primary suspect, identified as 51-year-old Jayan Shivanandan Nair.

The Incident

The shooting occurred on Thursday morning at Bismillah Chawl, located near the Suman Tai Chavan Hindi Primary School in the Kailash Nagar area of Mumbra. According to police reports, the violence stemmed from a personal dispute.

Nair allegedly confronted a group of men who he claimed had been harassing his foster sister. The verbal altercation quickly escalated, and in a fit of rage, Nair opened fire on three individuals.

Casualties and Medical Response

The victims, identified as Abdul Hasan Shaikh , Akbar Abdul Shaikh , and Sameer Ahmed Shaikh , were rushed to the Kalsekar Hospital in Mumbra for emergency treatment.

Akbar Abdul Shaikh succumbed to his injuries during treatment and was declared dead.

The other two victims remain under medical care; however, official updates on their current condition are still pending.

Police Action

The suspect initially fled the scene following the shooting. However, a swift operation by the Mumbra police led to his arrest shortly after. The police have also recovered the weapon used in the crime.

Senior Police Inspector Anil Shinde confirmed the arrest, stating that a formal investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and the source of the firearm. Security has been beefed up in the Kailash Nagar area to maintain law and order.

This incident is the third of its kind in the Thane-Mumbra region within a week, sparking concerns among residents regarding a possible surge in local crime.
