Maharashtra To Implement Farmer ID System For Subsidised Fertiliser Distribution Under AgriStack Initiative

Mumbai: In a major step toward improving transparency and efficiency in agriculture, Maharashtra will now distribute subsidised chemical fertilisers using a ‘Farmer ID’ system, Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharne announced.

The decision was discussed during an online meeting chaired by Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Bharne informed that Maharashtra will implement the country’s first pilot project using Farmer ID under the AgriStack initiative.

New System Aims to Curb Fraud and Ensure Direct Subsidy Delivery

The new system aims to streamline fertiliser distribution, ensuring that subsidies reach farmers directly, accurately, and transparently. It is also expected to curb fraudulent practices and improve the overall reliability of the distribution process.

During the meeting, Chouhan congratulated Maharashtra for generating the highest number of Farmer IDs under the AgriStack scheme. He also appreciated the state’s swift disbursal of relief funds to farmers affected by excessive rainfall within just four days.

The Union Minister further advised expanding the use of Farmer ID across various government schemes, noting that Maharashtra’s initiative could serve as a model for other states.

This move is expected to make agricultural services more accessible, technology-driven, and farmer-friendly, paving the way for a more efficient subsidy delivery system in the state.
