Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced a statewide special inspection campaign to enhance the safety and well-being of passengers. The campaign, aimed at detecting and preventing alcohol consumption among drivers and conductors, will run from January 16 to January 20, 2025.
According to a letter issued by the General Manager of the Transport Department on January 14, surprise alcohol tests will be conducted during the campaign. Supervisors from the security department, traffic inspectors, and training supervisors will carry out the inspections using breath analyzers and other alcohol detection devices.
“All suspected drivers and conductors, except those on leave or absent, must undergo the testing,” stated the letter. “For individuals not tested, the reasons must be clearly documented in the inspection sheet.”
Additionally, traffic controllers at bus depots have been instructed to check drivers and conductors while recording log sheets. Records of all tested individuals must be maintained, and a consolidated report prepared in the prescribed format is to be submitted to mctaccident@gmail.com by January 22, 2025.
