Mumbai: The sessions court on Friday refused to grant bail to BEST bus driver Sanjay More involved in the December 9 accident in Kurla, which resulted in the deaths of nine persons and injured more than 40. A detailed order was not made available.
The tragedy took place around 9.30pm when More apparently lost control over the wheels and ploughed into several vehicles and pedestrians on the SG Barve Marg in Kurla West.
While seeking bail, his lawyer raised several issues and claimed that More has been made a scapegoat. He contended that the prosecution has failed to submit technical aspects and evidence related to the bus involved in the crash.
Besides, it was argued that the bus has neither been seized nor sent for proper forensic examination. Instead, the vehicle was shifted to a depot where the officers of the regional transport office examined the vehicle, More's lawyer asserted. After the examination, the officers had said that the bus had no technical issue or mechanical failure.

The plea was opposed by the prosecution which averred the accident took place because of More's negligence. It pointed out that the police during the investigation have recorded statements of over 40 witnesses, including those injured and the bus passengers, who indicated More's fault.
