Indian Railways Augments Additional General Coaches To Boost Unreserved Passenger Travel
Railways has emphasized on the expansion of facilities on top priority for both economically weaker sections and others by maintaining a ratio of 2:3 for non-AC coaches and 1:3 for AC coaches. To meet the growing demand for general coaches, a special manufacturing program has been launched.

Railways has emphasized on the expansion of facilities on top priority for both economically weaker sections and others by maintaining a ratio of 2:3 for non-AC coaches and 1:3 for AC coaches. To meet the growing demand for general coaches, a special manufacturing program has been launched.
This financial year, 1914 coaches have already been added, with 384 EMU coaches & 185 MEMU coaches, ensuring convenience for unreserved category passengers. This will benefit almost 72 lakh passengers
According to the Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer, in view of the ever-increasing demand of the general public towards rail travel, the process to augment additional general coaches is going on in all rail zones and divisions across the country.
In this sequence, Western Railway has added almost 150 new additional coaches of General Category (GS) in 78 pairs of trains in the last six months, i.e. from July to December. Thousands of additional passengers are being benefitted from this every day.
