Mumbai: Despite the threatening email, the mayor's office ran as usual on Friday, and Tawde will be attending all scheduled events.

Immediately after mayor Ritu Tawde's office received email of bomb threat ahead of the independence day, the police security was escalated at the BMC headquarters in Fort. The heritage building has policeman at all gates, with extra force at the gate leading to the mayor's office. The bomb squad was seen scanning the premises, outside and inside the building, including political party offices.

No Suspicious Object Found, Office Functioned Normally

"The police came and checked the mayor's office and the area was scanned thoroughly. Nothing suspicious was found. The mayor met the visitors as everyday, held scheduled meeting and there was no disruptions in the office working. It was a regular working day," said an official from the mayor's office.

"The mayor will continue working as usual. All meetings, functions, including the independence day's events, will be as scheduled. There is nothing to worry as Mumbai police has come into action and we thank them for prompt response. An investigation has been launched to find the culprits," said BJP's Priti Satam, speaking on behalf of the mayor.

This is not the first form that the mayor has recieved a threat. Similar two threats were given via email in last couple of months, which came to be hoax. It has raised questions among the public as why the first citizen of Mumbai is receiving threats.
