The BMC has proposed the construction of the 'Mumbai Eye' in its 2025 Budget, envisioning a landmark tourist attraction inspired by the iconic London Eye. Initially conceived by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) in 2011, the project failed to take off. Now, with renewed ambition, the BMC aims to bring the vision to life, promising sweeping panoramic views of the city and enhancing Mumbai's tourism appeal.

Following the initial attempt by MSRDC, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) took over the idea in 2023, proposing the Bandra Reclamation promenade as a potential site. The MMRDA invited bids for a project management consultant and initiated preparations for a technical feasibility report and the tendering process in May 2023.

The proposal faced stiff opposition from local residents of Bandra Reclamation, who raised concerns over potential traffic congestion. Additionally, development restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Environment and Forests on the reclaimed area led to the project’s cancellation.
BMC will be the third agency that will now attempt to bring the Mumbai Eye to fruition. Inspired by the success of the London Eye, which has influenced the creation of similar attractions around the world, the Mumbai Eye aims to be a new global icon. Designed with air-conditioned, sealed passenger capsules, each holding 25 people, the Mumbai Eye will offer a 360-degree view of the city, giving visitors an elevated perspective of Mumbai’s bustling landscape.
