52-Year-Old Man Arrested In Dombivli After 23 Yrs In Connection With 2002 Murder & Kidnapping Case

Palghar: A 52-year-old man, Mohammad Tarbez Mohammad Idris Ansari, has been apprehended in Dombivli, Thane district, after evading authorities for 23 years in connection with a 2002 murder and kidnapping case.

About The Case

Ansari is accused of the murder of his younger brother's first wife, Shabana Parvin (30), and the kidnapping of their five-month-old son in Virar, Palghar district. He was arrested on Monday after police received a tip-off that he was residing in a rented room under a fake identity for over two decades in Dombivli.

According to Senior Inspector Aviraj Kurhade of the Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) commissionerate, the incident occurred on June 6, 2002, when Ansari, along with his younger brother's second wife, Afrin Banu, allegedly murdered Shabana Parvin by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon. They then kidnapped her infant son.

The Virar police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder), 363 (kidnapping), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).

Investigations revealed that Ansari had opposed his younger brother's marriage to Shabana Parvin and subsequently pressured him to marry Afrin Banu.

Assistant Police Inspector Datta Sarak reported that after the crime, Ansari initially fled to Lucknow, where he lived for three years. He then relocated to Dombivli, where he resided for the past 20 years under a false identity.

The second accused, Afrin Banu, surrendered to police in 2015 but was later acquitted due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

The kidnapped child, now a 23-year-old man, is currently living with his father and stepmother in Lucknow.
