Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The long-awaited construction of the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Memorial has officially commenced with deep reverence and traditional rituals. The formal initiation of the project took place recently, with blessings sought from Lord Hanuman, symbol of unparalleled strength and divine power.
Speaking at the event, Sumitra Mahajan, former Lok Sabha Speaker and president of the Ahilyabai Holkar Smarak Pratishthan, expressed faith that the memorial would be completed swiftly and successfully under the blessings of Maruti Nandan (Lord Hanuman). “This is not just the beginning of construction, but the start of a cultural and historical tribute to Devi Ahilyabai’s legacy,” she said.
Noted industrialist and trustee of the memorial foundation, Vinod Agrawal, echoed this sentiment, saying, “With Hanuman’s strength guiding us, our resolve has strengthened and we are confident in achieving our goal swiftly.”
Trust secretary Ashok Daga provided insights into the construction plans, emphasizing the use of traditional materials and techniques. “The entire structure will be built using lime mortar, preserving the heritage essence and original style of the era,” he shared.
Renowned artist and Padma Shri awardee Bhalu Mondhe revealed that motifs reflecting Devi Ahilyabai’s life and noble contributions would be intricately carved on the memorial’s inner walls, making it not only a monument but also a visual history.
In a symbolic gesture, Sumitra Mahajan, Vinod Agrawal, Ashok Daga and other trustees and dignitaries, including Sudhir Dedage, Prashant Badwe, Ramswaroop Moondr and others, performed rituals honouring Lord Vishwakarma and the tools to be used in the construction.
With rituals completed and blessings invoked, the memorial’s construction will now proceed regularly and with accelerated pace, bringing the city a step closer to honouring its beloved queen with a lasting tribute.
