Indore’s Road Widening Project: Kailash Vijayvargiya Promises New Flats For Families Losing Homes
The master plan proposes widening 23 roads, which will affect over two thousand structures.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has assured families losing their houses in Indore's road-widening project under the 2023-24 master plan that they will be provided with alternative flats.
During a review meeting held on Wednesday, Vijayvargiya emphasised the need to take tough decisions for the city’s development but stressed the importance of fair rehabilitation for affected residents.
The meeting focused on the construction of 23 roads, covering 34.75 kilometers, at a cost of ₹468.41 crore. While discussing the impact of the project, Vijayvargiya acknowledged that many families in the old city have lived there for generations and own registered properties.
However, Vijayvargiya stood firm, saying that wide roads are essential for the city’s growth. He instructed officials to explore options for providing well-structured flats or plots to families whose entire homes are affected by the widening project.
The meeting, held at the City Bus Office, saw participation from several prominent leaders and officials, including Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat, MP Shankar Lalwani, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, and Collector Ashish Singh.
The master plan proposes widening 23 roads, which will affect 2,875 structures.
Vijayvargiya’s assurance aims to balance development needs with the rehabilitation of affected families, ensuring a fair and practical solution for all stakeholders.
