Indore (Madhya Pradesh): It has come to notice that train operations from Indore Railway Station remain active only for nine hours of a 24-hour day. This inactivity has caused a major inconvenience to the passengers.
Indore Railway Station handles a total of 277 train operations weekly, and majority of them operate within 6 am to 9 am, 3 pm to 5 pm, and 8 pm to 11 pm. The station sees maximum passenger movement at these hours.
However, there are no trains scheduled between 12 midnight and 4 am. Additionally, there is a time slot of two hours in which four trains operate, according to data released by the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
As per the weekly peak-hour analysis, 51 trains operate between 6–9 am, 57 between 3–5 pm, and 50 between 8–11 pm each week.
Among the platforms, Platform-4 is the busiest, with 29% of trains operating from it. Platform-1 comes second, which handles 20% of train traffic.
Railway expert advocates expansion of return train services
Regarding the issue, railway expert Nagesh Namjoshi said train operations must be spreaded beyond peak hours to improve efficiency and meet rising demand. He said the issue should be included in the Time Management Committee's discussions.
Namjoshi also advocated for increasing the number of platforms, as the redevelopment plan currently limits the station to just four.
Additionally, he recommended expanding return train services and utilizing nearby stations such as Mhow, Laxmibai Nagar, and Rajendra Nagar for train operations to reduce congestion at Indore's main station.
MP Shankar Lalwani announces station redevelopment project
Member of Parliament Shankar Lalwani highlighted that the station redevelopment project is set to begin soon. He emphasized the need for a better scheduling system post-redevelopment to accommodate more trains for Indore.
