Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Efforts of the health department to vaccinate eligible people with the precautionary dose at the earliest are not enough as it is overdue for over 2 lakh people, including those above the age of 60 years.
According to health officials, the number has increased to almost double with the ministry of health and family welfare decreasing the gap between the second dose and precautionary dose from nine months to six months.
“About 1.22 lakh people were due to take the precautionary dose in the city, but the number may have increased with the decreasing gap. We’re updating the records and will take steps according to the pendency,” district immunisation officer Dr Tarun Gupta said. He added that the number would be about 2 lakh people who have not taken the precaution dose yet.
“We’ve increased the number of sites to make it easy for the people to get the doses. Over 100 sites are being run for vaccinating people, including with precautionary doses, across the district,” the immunisation officer said. He added that, as the number of cases is increasing, people must take the precautionary dose as soon as possible as it will work as a cover against any new wave of the pandemic disease.
Only 900 inoculated on Thursday
As many as 900 people were inoculated on Thursday, including with 630 doses as precautionary dose, while over 200 doses were administered as the second dose to teenagers of age 15-17 and also people between the ages of 18 and 44 years
