FP Impact: Nutritious Food Distribution Resumes For Pregnant Women At District Hospital

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Pregnant women visiting the District Hospital have started receiving nutritious food again under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA). For the last six months, food distribution on the 9th and 25th of each month has stopped, causing inconvenience to women.

Free Press raised the issue in its January 12 edition, following which the officials addressed it and resumed food distribution. On Saturday, 90 pregnant women received dry fruit laddus, biscuits, and bananas during their checkups, bringing smiles to their faces.

Many women shared their relief, mentioning that earlier, they would often leave disappointed due to the lack of food, even after raising complaints to hospital authorities.

“Nutrition during pregnancy is vital for the health of both mother and child. Prolonged gaps in providing nutritious food can adversely affect maternal and fetal well-being,” experts said.

The disruption occurred due to delayed payments to the food vendor, who stopped services without informing hospital authorities. “Payments have now been cleared from Bhopal, ensuring food availability for pregnant women,” Civil Surgeon Dr GL Sodhi, said.
