Customs Dept Seized Foreign Currency Worth ₹26 Lakh From Indore Airport
The passenger failed to provide any legal documents or explain the source of the foreign exchange.

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Customs Department seized foreign currency from multiple countries worth approximately ₹26 lakh at Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport, Indore, according to official information.

A passenger traveling to Sharjah on Air India Express Flight IX-255 on December 7, 2024, was searched in the airport's departure hall based on a tip-off from CISF personnel, who suspected the individual of carrying foreign currency in their bag.
Upon searching the passenger's trolley bag, officials recovered foreign currency from different countries, including:
US Dollars: 8,000
New Zealand Dollars: 500
Pounds Sterling: 60
Rials: 40
Euros: 19,665
The total approximate value of the seized currency in INR is ₹26 lakh.
The passenger failed to provide any legal documents or explain the source of the foreign exchange. Consequently, the foreign currencies were confiscated.
The attempted export of this currency violated provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999, the Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Currency) Regulation, 2015, as amended, the Baggage Rules, 2016, and the Customs Act, 1963.
The matter is currently under investigation.
