Who is Akash Ambani? Know all about the new chairman of Reliance Jio and son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani

In the latest development, Reliance Jio announced on Tuesday its board has approved the appointment of Akash Ambani as Chairman of the Board.

He has also been appointed as the Non-executive Director of Reliance Jio.

The development comes from Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani who tendered his resignation as the Director of Reliance Jio effective June 27.

Who is Akash Ambani?

Born on 23 October 1991, the 30-year-old was born and brought up in one of the most popular and the richest business family in India.

He is the eldest son of billionaire business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani.

Career:

Inspired by his father, Akash Ambani is already following his footsteps and has taken the responsibility of leading the company from the front. He was introduced to the BOD (Board of Directors) in the year 2014.

A technology enthusiast, Akash immediately became involved in the development of the game-changing Jio 4G-LTE connection, which did not support the legacy 2G/3G network. He joined the 60-member startup four days after completing his graduation in Economics in 2014.

In March 2015, he led the launch of Jio's 4G services in India with his sister.

He is also the co-owner of the popular Indian Premier League Cricket team Mumbai Indians.

Education:

Akash completed his schooling from the Dhirubhai Ambani International School. He later went to the US and did his major in economics from Brown University.

Personal life:

Akash got married to his childhood friend Shloka Mehta in the year 2019. The two dated for years before tying the knot. Shloka is the daughter of Indian diamantaires Russell and Mona Mehta.
