Kolkata: Amid politics over religion, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari mentioned that over one crore Hindus will participate in Ram Navami processions this year in Bengal on April 6.
“Last year 50 lakh people with 1000 processions were taken out on Ram Navami and this year at least one crore Hindus will participate with 2000 processions. I will be on road and no permission is needed for taking out processions from the state administration. We don’t need permission to pray to Lord Ram,” said Adhikari.
The Leader of Opposition also announced construction of a ‘Ram Mandir’ by the end of this year at Sonajhura which falls under his Nandigram constituency.
“We will take out peaceful rallies on Ram Navami and it is the responsibility of the administration to ensure that others also cooperate and remain peaceful,” further mentioned Adhikari without mentioning any community.
Adhikari also called ‘Singur Protest’ which brought Trinamool Congress (TMC) to power as ‘unwanted protest’.
TMC minister Firhad Hakim slammed Adhikari saying that people of Bengal will not be carried away by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)s ‘communal rhetoric’.
“In the land of Rabindranath Tagore and Swami Vivekananda people will not be swayed by the communal rhetoric of BJP leaders like Adhikari. Everyone has the right to celebrate any religious rituals,” added Hakim.
Meanwhile, politicians from every political party were seen doing public connect while celebrating Holi ahead of the Assembly elections scheduled next year.
