New Delhi: The Union government has launched the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana, focused on improving farming conditions in 100 districts identified by low productivity, moderate crop intensity, and restricted access to credit. Presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2025, the program aims to enhance rural prosperity by integrating existing agricultural programs with targeted interventions.
The initiative takes cues from the Aspirational Districts Program, where the government collaborates with state administrations to carry out specific reforms aimed at improving the conditions of farmers in less developed agricultural regions.
The main focus points involve boosting productivity through modern agricultural methods and tools, encouraging crop variety and sustainable practices, creating post-harvest storage systems to minimize waste, upgrading irrigation systems, and making credit access more convenient for farmers. The government expects to aid 1.7 crore farmers with these initiatives, resulting in higher incomes and sustainable agriculture.

Furthermore, the government has unveiled the Rural Prosperity and Resilience Program to tackle underemployment in the agricultural sector. This initiative, carried out in partnership with state governments, focuses on skill development, investment, and the adoption of technology to strengthen the rural economy.
“The Rural Prosperity and Resilience Program will be launched in partnership with the states. This will address underemployment in agriculture through skilling, investment, technology, and invigorating the rural economy,” said Finance Minister Sitharaman while presenting the Union Budget of 2025.
The initiative seeks to generate significant job opportunities in rural regions, especially for women, young farmers, small and marginal landowners, as well as landless households, promoting economic security.
“Motivated by the success of the Aspirational Districts Program, our government will undertake the Prime Minister Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana in partnership with states. Through the convergence of existing schemes and specialized measures, the program will cover 100 districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity, and below-average credit parameters,” said Sitharaman while presenting the budget.
In general, these efforts aim to promote inclusive agricultural growth, support farmers, and enhance rural development throughout India. By focusing on productivity, financial assistance, infrastructure improvement, and job creation, the government seeks to create a basis for enduring agricultural sustainability and rural wealth, while stakeholders monitor closely the effects on the farming economy and rural communities.
