Suvendu Adhikari Says CAA Hearing Nears End, Mamata Targets Annapurna Scheme

Kolkata: Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday said that the hearing of the CAA will end soon.

“Out of 2.30 lakh applicants, the state has already issued certificates for 23,000 people. Necessary directives have been given to the authorities,” said Adhikari.

Referring to the West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026, Adhikari mentioned that Governor RN Ravi has given his consent to arrest those who are attacking police and damaging public property.

Mamata targets BJP scheme

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a video message, slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the women empowerment scheme ‘Annapurna Yojana’ and claimed all women of the state are not getting the benefit.

“Before coming to power, the BJP didn’t mention any conditions and said that everyone will get it. Now, despite several criteria, even the eligible people are not getting the benefits. I would urge everyone to collect the names, addresses and phone numbers of those who are not getting the benefits,” said Mamata, also adding that she will not take ‘sanyas’ from politics till BJP loses power.

Adhikari counters claims

Countering the claims of Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari mentioned that nearly 1.5 crore women of the state are getting benefits of ‘Annapurna Yojana’.

“Mamata should not speak much. She once said that since she is in power one particular community can stay here. The hint was very clear. Almost 19.2 lakhs of Muslim women are getting benefits of the women empowerment scheme. People have voted us not just for grants; we have other works to do for developing the state,” further mentioned Adhikari.
