Several Feared Trapped Under Debris As Building Collapses Near DU South Campus - VIDEO

Several people are feared trapped after a three-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area near Delhi University’s South Campus on Sunday afternoon. The incident took place around 1:30 pm amid rain, triggering panic in the area.

Delhi Police said a PCR call was received at South Campus police station at around 1:34 pm regarding the collapse of a building near Nanakpura Gurdwara. Police, Delhi Fire Services, CAT ambulances and other emergency teams reached the spot, while an NDRF team has also joined the rescue operation. Police said the exact number of people trapped or injured is not known yet, adding that two people have been rescued so far.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said teams from the DDMA, NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, MCD, CATS and Civil Defence were conducting rescue operations on a “war footing”. The adjacent building has also been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

A JCB machine has been brought to the site to assist rescue teams in clearing the debris.

An eyewitness told ANI that he heard a loud rumbling sound before the building suddenly collapsed, filling the area with smoke and dust. He claimed that several people, including children, were trapped under the rubble and that rescuers had pulled out four children alive. The eyewitness also claimed that the building housed nearby paying guest accommodations and that labourers were working on a basement and ground-floor renovation when the collapse occurred. These claims have not been independently verified.

Rescue and relief operations remain underway as authorities search the debris for survivors.
