Chandigarh: Punjab police on Friday claimed to have detained a software engineer in connection with a series of threatening emails to blow up the Golden Temple with RDX.
Terming the detention of the suspect, identified as Shubham Dubey, 24, a resident of Haryana’s Faridabad city, as "partial success’’ in the said case, commissioner of police (CP), Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said the police has taken Dubey into custody for questioning and sent his mobile phones and laptop for forensic examination.
Bhullar said that the suspect, a B Tech degree holder, had worked with two software companies but was currently unemployed.
Stating that Dubey has been detained and brought to Amritsar after the state police got a lead in the case with the help of Central agencies and the state cyber-crime cell, the CP said that Dubey’s role in sending the threatening emails is being examined in the case. He said that detention of Dubey is being seen as a partial success as crucial information from the internet service providers is still awaited in the context, he added.
According to police, a sizable content of some emails is also related to Tamil Nadu as these talk about DMK and girl students of Anna University which are also being investigated.
It may be recalled that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had received about five threatening emails to blow up the Golden Temple since July 14, last. The same made the state police and Central agencies to step up the security measures in and around the Golden Temple.
