Narwal tied the knot with Himanshi on April 16. Just a few days into their married life, the couple had travelled to Pahalgam for their honeymoon when the tragedy struck. Terrorists opened fire on tourists in the area, killing 26, including Narwal. He was shot dead in front of his wife, who stood beside his coffin, wrapped in the Indian tricolour. She told ANI, “Let his soul rest in peace… We should all be proud of him in every way."
His mortal remains were first flown to Delhi’s IGI Airport from Kashmir and then taken by road to Karnal. Upon arrival, the atmosphere was sombre, with emotional crowds raising slogans such as ‘Pakistan Murdabad’ in response to the attack.
The funeral procession drew hundreds of locals who turned out in solidarity, many visibly emotional. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was also present at the scene and was seen consoling Himanshi during the ceremony.
Narwal’s final journey was accompanied by his wife and close family members in a separate vehicle, as the body was taken to the cremation ground.
