On Camera: UP Constable Assaulted For Objecting To Shop Being Kept Open At Night In Pilibhit; 4 Arrested

A police constable on patrol duty was assaulted in the Puranpur Kotwali area of Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit late on Friday night. According to reports, constable Mahavir was on patrol duty in Dhaka Mohalla around 1 AM when he objected to a shop operating beyond authorised hours.
In response, a group of individuals allegedly assaulted the constable. Shockingly, the attackers first verbally abused the officer before throwing him to the ground and kicking him repeatedly. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing another constable present at the scene who reportedly failed to intervene during the attack.
The following day, a woman named Mahmoodan Begum accompanied by three others made counter-allegations against the police when meeting with the Superintendent of Police. Begum claimed officers had entered her home while intoxicated, thrown cooking utensils, and threatened to falsely implicate three individuals in criminal cases.

However, Kotwal Satyendra Kumar stated preliminary investigations suggest Begum's complaint appears fabricated, possibly intended to divert attention from the assault case. Constable Mahavir has undergone medical examination, and police have registered a case against the attackers for obstructing government officials.
In a video statement, Pilibhit SP Abhishek Yadav confirmed the arrest of four accused in the case.
