West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed shock over the killing of the TMC councillor. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mamata wrote: "My close associate and a very popular leader, Babla Sarkar, has been murdered today. From the beginning of the Trinamool Congress, he (and his wife, Chaitali Sarkar) worked hard for the party, and Babla was also elected as a councillor."
"I am deeply saddened and shocked by this incident. The culprits must be brought to justice immediately. I am so heartbroken that I struggle to find the words to convey my condolences to the bereaved family. May God give Chaitali the strength to endure this loss and fight through this difficult time," she added.
