Meta Apologises For Mark Zuckerberg's Remarks On 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

Multinational technology conglomerate Meta has apologized for its founder Mark Zuckerberg's remarks on the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who heads the Parliamentary Committee on Communications and Information Technology, in a social media post on Wednesday informed that top Meta officials have apologized for Zuckerberg's remarks.

Taking to X, the BJP MP wrote, "The Indian Parliament and government have the blessings and public trust of 140 crore people. Meta's India official has finally apologized for their mistakes. This is a victory for India's common citizens."

"The public has introduced the world to the country's strongest leadership by making honorable Prime Minister Modi ji (Narendra Modi) the Prime Minister for the third time. Now our committee's responsibility on this issue ends. We will call these social platforms on other issues in the future. Forgiveness befits the snake that possesses venom," he added.

Meta's apology comes a day after Nishikant Dubey in a social media post said that the Parliamentary Committee would summon Meta over Zuckerberg's remarks.

The controversy stems from Zuckerberg's remarks a few days ago when he said on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast that the NDA government, led by BJP, lost the Lok Sabha elections held in 2024.

"2024 was a big election year around the world and in all these countries, India had elections. The incumbents basically lost every single one. There is some sort of a global phenomenon – whether it was because of inflation or the economic policies to deal with COVID or just how the governments dealt with COVID. It seems to have had this effect that's global," said Zuckerberg in the podcast.

Shortly after his statement, India's Information and Broadcasting Minister objected to his remarks and expressed his displeasure over them.

Saying that the people of India "reaffirmed their trust in NDA led by PM Narendra Modi Ji's leadership," he added that Zuckerberg's comment was "factually incorrect." Vaishnaw added that it was "disappointing to see misinformation from Mr. Zuckerberg himself."
