Hotel Manager Allegedly Killed By Cops In Himachal Pradesh's Chamba, 2 Arrested Amid Protest By Locals
A hotel manager was allegedly killed by policemen in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1. Two cops were later arrested in the case. The incident sparked outrage in the area against the police department.

Chamba: A hotel manager was allegedly killed by policemen in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba district on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1. Two cops were later arrested in the case. The incident sparked outragein the area against the police department. The hotel is located in Banikhet area near famous tourist place Dalhousie.
The arrested cops have been identified as constables Anoop and Amit. They were reportedly arrested a few hours after the killing. According to a report published in The Times of India, the cops allegedly pushed 46-year-old hotel manager Rajender Malhotra and his colleague Sachin from the edge of the hotel’s parking lot wall.
Malhotra was a resident of Khajjiar town in the district. The police registered a case against the two accused. They also have been suspended. Three police personnel in uniform entered the hotel at around 1:30 am after finishing their duty, reported the media house. They reportedly demanded food.
However, an argument broke out between the policemen and Sachin after refused to serve food due to late hour. When Malhotra tried to intervene, Anoop and Amit pushed him and Sachin. They fell off the parking lot wall. The hotel manager died, while Sachin suffered serious injuries.
"The policemen left the hotel saying we killed and ransacked your place. We have all the CCTV footage as evidence of what the duo did," hotel owner Ajay told TOI.
No action has been taken against the third cop as he was not involved in the scuffle, reported Times Now.
After the incidents, local protests against the Chamba Police. Local took to streets against the police. The protesters even raised slogans against the police. A departmental inquiry has been ordered against the accused.
A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter.
