Ahmedabad: A high-voltage drama unfolded on Saturday in the Odhav area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad when police arrived to arrest a wanted criminal, Abhishek Tomar alias Shooter. In an attempt to evade arrest, he climbed onto the roof of a flat on the fifth floor of a residential building, started a live video on social media, and threatened to commit suicide.
Police, fire brigade personnel, and local residents were present at the scene throughout the incident, which lasted for three hours. A video of the event has surfaced, showing the accused standing on the edge of the roof of the flat while police is trying to communicate with him.
The Crime Branch had received a tip-off that the shooter was hiding in Flat No. 505 of the X Wing in Shivam Awas, located in the Odhav area.
The accused, who was wanted in several serious criminal cases across multiple police stations in the eastern part of the city, had been absconding for a long time. Acting on the information, the Crime Branch team reached the flat and knocked on the door, but the shooter did not open the door.
When the police team broke the door and entered the flat, he immediately climbed to the fifth floor roof of the building through the bathroom window.
The police promptly informed the fire brigade and the control room. Safety measures were taken along the edge of the rooftop to prevent a fatal fall in case the criminal attempted to jump.
Eventually, the police's persuasion and strategy worked and the accused was brought down safely and was arrested later.
"Criminal Abhishek Tomar, aka Shooter, was arrested after a dramatic standoff in Odhav. He threatened to jump from a flat balcony, livestreaming the event on social media. Police, with fire brigade support, ensured his safe arrest. Tomar, known for his Instagram profile "Shooter AK-47," faces multiple charges and was wanted for a long time," DCP Ajit Ranjaan said speaking on the incident.
