Gurugram: Torrential rain brought Gurugram to a near standstill on Thursday, July 10, making the district administration to issue a work from home advisory for all corporate offices and private institutions. The advisory, issued after a night of intense rainfall, aims to ease road congestion and ensure public safety.
Between 7:00 pm on July 9 and 7:00 am on July 10, the city recorded 133 mm of rain, with a staggering 103 mm falling in just a 90-minute window between 7:30 pm and 9:00 pm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for the city, indicating a forecst of more heavy rainfall in the coming hours.
Work From Home Advised to Prevent Traffic Chaos
In response to the severe weather and flooded streets, Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon, Ajay Kumar, issued an advisory requesting cooperation from companies and institutions.
"In view of the above, all corporate offices and private institutions in the district are advised to guide their employees to work from home on July 10 so the traffic congestion can be avoided," the advisory read.
With waterlogging already impacting movement across key areas in the city, officials said the advisory is a precautionary measure to minimise disruptions. "Stay safe. Follow updates from the district administration," Kumar added.

Orange Alert and Record Rainfall
The IMD’s Orange Alert comes after the city experienced one of its most intense spells of rain in recent months. The alert indicates the likelihood of continued rainfall that could disrupt normal life and pose risks in low-lying areas.
The sudden deluge, particularly the intense downpour over 90 minutes, overwhelmed drainage systems and left large stretches of road submerged. The administration has advised residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
