Goa: Another truck topples at Gulem
While the driver and cleaner escaped unhurt, the truck suffered extensive damage in the mishap
Canacona: The driver and cleaner had a lucky escape when a truck fell off the narrow section of the NH66 highway at Gulem on Wednesday morning. This is the second such mishap involving a truck in the last few days.
According to sources, the truck loaded with cement bags was headed towards Margao when it fell off the road after moving towards the left side to give space to an oncoming truck.
While the driver and cleaner escaped unhurt, the truck suffered extensive damage in the mishap.
Locals, however, complained that mishaps have taken place on a regular basis due to the narrow road.
“Five such mishaps have taken place where trucks have gone off the road in Gulem and almost all have fallen because of the narrow stretch of the Highway,” said Sunay Gaonkar.
“In fact, the entire Gulem section including the Karmalghat slope has become a nightmare for motorists and driving along this stretch of the highway is a challenge, especially for heavy vehicles,” Gaonkar added.
Some even felt that activists should file complaints against the PWD and the government for failing to improve the highway road, despite making announcements.
