'Will is gay and he does love Mike': Noah Schnapp spills the beans on a coming-out scene in 'Stranger Things' season 5
Will is also shown feeling uncomfortable after a girl from his class touches his leg in a flirtatious manner

Hollywood actor Noah Schnapp of 'Stranger Things' has finally confirmed that his character Will Byers is in fact gay, and loves his best friend Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard).
Season 4 Volume 2 feature an emotional scene between Will and Mike, where the former breaks down into tears, as he vaguely explains how Mike can help save Eleven. Throughout the season, the audience is shown Will being placed between Mike and Eleven, as if he were in a dilemma. He is also shown feeling uncomfortable after a girl from his class touches his leg in a flirtatious manner.
In an interview with Variety, Noah said, "It’s pretty clear this season that Will has feelings for Mike. They’ve been intentionally pulling that out over the past few seasons...I think for Season 4, it was just me playing this character who loves his best friend but struggles with knowing if he’ll be accepted or not, and feeling like a mistake and like he doesn’t belong...It was always kind of there, but you never really knew, is it just him growing up slower than his friends? Now that he’s gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing. Now it’s 100% clear that he is gay and he does love Mike."
Spilling the beans on the idea if there will be a coming-out scene for Will in season 5, Noah added, "This isn’t just a single layer thing of he’s struggling with coming out. It’s this multifaceted trauma that goes years back, because he was taken by the Demogorgon and then his friends, they never acknowledged him, and now he’s scared to come out and doesn’t know if they’ll accept him. And then Eleven is like his sister, but he doesn’t want to hurt her because if he says he likes Mike, that’s gonna hurt her feelings."
Meanwhile the Duffer Brothers will drop the season 5 in 2024. They've also mentioned that "we don't expect" season five's episodes to be as long, except for season five's last episode and the streaming series' finale.
Besides Noah and Finn, the series also stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson and Caleb McLaughlin.
