After years of delay, Kangana Ranaut's ambitious project, Emergency, released in theatres earlier this year, and it is now streaming on Netflix, with people showering it with love. However, Kangana has now stated that she does not want an Oscar for her film from 'bully' America, and that she would rather want her film to get India's National Award.
Recently, a fan wrote on X that Emergency should head to the Oscars. "#EmergencyOnNetflix should go for the Oscars from India. Kangana, what a film (sic)," the fan wrote. But the actress was unimpressed by the idea, and she replied, "But America wouldn't like to acknowledge its real face, how they bully suppress and arm twist developing nations. It's been exposed in #emergency. They can keep their silly Oscar. We have National Awards (sic)."

Kangana also responded to filmmaker Sanjay Gupta, who stated that while he was initially skeptical of watching Emergency as he was "prejudiced", he gave it a chance and loved the performances and direction. "Film industry must come out of its hate and prejudices and acknowledge good work, thanks for breaking that barrier Sanjay ji, the barriers of preconceived notions, my message to all filmi intellectuals, never keep any notions about me, mujhe samajhne ki koshish bhi mat karna, main pahunch se bahar hoon (sic)," the actress wrote.
Emergency marked the directorial debut of Kangana and she also played the lead role of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. It had been at the centre of controversies ever since its first look was released, and after multiple delays and setbacks, it finally released on January 17 this year.
Post its release in theatres, Emergency earned Rs 20.48 crore in India, while the global box office collection of the film was Rs 23.75 crore.
Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman and Vishak Nair in key roles.
