Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has addressed the controversy surrounding his recently released devotional song Mahakal Chalo, which he collaborated on with singer Palash Sen. The song, released ahead of Mahashivratri 2025, reportedly faced objections from a priest association over certain visuals.
During a press conference for his upcoming film Kannappa on Thursday (February 27), Akshay responded to the criticism, questioning the objections raised against the song.

For those unversed, in one of the scenes in the video of the song, Akshay is seen hugging shivling. Reacting to the controversy, he said during the event, "Since childhood, my parents taught me that Bhagwan hamare maata pita hai (God is like our parents). So, if you hug your parents, what is wrong with that? Is there anything wrong with it?"

Defending his devotion, he further stated while interacting with media persons, "Meri agar shakti wahan se aati hai, toh meri bhakti ko agar koi galat samjhe, usmein mera koi kasoor nahi. (If my strength comes from there, and someone misunderstands my devotion, it is not my fault.)"
Despite the controversy, Mahakal Chalo has been well-received by his fans.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay Kumar is set to portray Lord Shiva in the Telugu film Kannappa, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh. The film, which marks his Telugu cinema debut, is scheduled for release on April 25, 2025.
Akshay was last seen on the big screens in Sky Force with Veer Pahariya, Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan.
