THE Asia Rankings 2025: IISc Bengaluru Leads Indian Institutions; Check Top 10 Here
The Times Higher Education Asia Rankings 2025 placed IISc Bengaluru 4th in Asia and 1st in India. Anna University, IIT Indore, and Jamia Millia also featured, while China dominated the top 10 with five universities, led by Tsinghua University.

The Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2025, which were published on April 23, 2025, rank the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru fourth in Asia and first in India. Additionally, Anna University, which is situated in Chennai and is ranked 111th in Asia, is not far behind. Following Anna University are the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore (ranked 131st in the world), Mahatma Gandhi University (ranked 140th), Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences (ranked 146th), and Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (ranked 149th).

Overall, 34 Indian colleges did worse this year, while 14 improved their standing in the Asia ranking. Two of the five IoEs that were part of THe is rankings fell in comparison to 2024, two stayed in the same place, and one (the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, which is currently ranked in the 201-250 range) rose.
Whereas, China once again demonstrated its might this year, as 25 of its institutions achieved their highest-ever ranking on the list. The top university in Asia is still Tsinghua University, with Peking University coming in second. Overall, five of the top 10 institutions in the region were from mainland China.
Alongside them were the University of Tokyo in fifth place, the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in sixth and ninth place, and Singapore's National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University in third and fourth place, respectively.
In this year's Asia rankings, only one Japanese university—the University of Tokyo—made it into the top 10, with Kyoto University coming in at number 13. Tohoku University fell one spot to 21st place, while these two universities held onto their places. These were followed by the Tokyo Institute of Technology in joint 32nd rank, down from 29th last year, and the University of Osaka in joint 27th place, up from 28th last year.
